Little-known badger fact 1: Lord Byron's ill-fated badger

The controversial and often notorious George Gordon, Lord Byron, had a pet Eurasian badger during his time living with his married lover Teresa and her husband in Ravenna, Italy (1819-20). The badger was one of numerous exotic (and often disabled) animals Byron collected, including monkeys, a fox, peacocks, and an eagle, but all died after Byron's departure.
